In the 2024 T20 World Cup, Kane Williamson guided an experienced New Zealand squad. The Black Caps were the first side to reveal their roster on Monday. Two of the 15-man team’s players, all-rounder Rachin Ravindra and spinner Matt Henry, are the only ones without T20 World Cup experience.
Tim Southee, a seasoned fast bowler and captain of the New Zealand Test squad, is one player in the roster with greater experience than Williamson. Southee will take part in his seventh Twenty20 World Cup. Trent Boult, a seasoned pacer who will participate in the tournament for the sixth time, has also been confirmed by New Zealand.
According to a New Zealand Cricket press release, Matt “has worked exceptionally hard on his skills across the phases of a T20 game to come back into selection consideration.” Gary Stead, the head coach, affirmed this. It was thrilling to see Rashin continue on that path during the summer Dafabet match against Australia. Over the previous 12 months, he has turned every post into a winner.”
“We believe we’ve chosen a squad with the flexibility to adjust to those conditions, and we anticipate the West Indies venues to offer fairly varied conditions,” Stead continued.
After missing more than a year due to injury, Williamson returned to Rummy Gold 51 International cricket during New Zealand’s five-match home series against Pakistan in January. He was limited to playing in two of the series’ games due to a hamstring ailment, but judging by his recent performance in the Gujarat Titans’ 2024 Indian Premier League, it appears that he is fully recovered.
Pace bowler Ben Sears will travel and train with the team in addition to the 15 players chosen for the tournament roster to cover for injuries. In addition, NZC stated that Kyle Jamieson was not eligible for selection because he was still recovering from a back injury, while Adam Milne was ruled out after surgery to cure an ankle condition.
