Think of an AKC Rally event as any team sport: You and your dog navigate a course, side-by-side, as you steer him through a course of 10-20 different signs. Each of these signs provides instructions regarding the next skill that is to be performed. The dog and handler move continuously throughout the course with the dog under control at the handler’s left side. There is a clear sense of teamwork between the dog and handler both during and between the numbered signs. Although each performance is timed, having a good race time is not the goal; it’s all about working as a team while performing the skills, with the dog under control.
Novice Rally teaches you and your dog to navigate a course of 10-15 designated stations with your dog in heel position. The exercises vary from turning 360 degrees to changing paces during the course. Your dog is on leash for all the exercises. You can talk, clap your hands, and/or pat your legs to encourage your dog. This session culminates in a Fun Match.
Rally Intermediate will focus on off leash and loose leash heeling, stationary, turns, cones, changing direction and introduction to the jump. This session culminates in a Fun Match.
This course will address stationary and moving signs, jumps, sit stay, changing direction, turns and more. This session culminates in a Fun Match.
Those in the Master class will concentrate on three cloverleaf, jumps/spins, changing direction and more. This session culminates in a Fun Match.
